Friday finds: Unplugged

I’ve always loved live music and I try to go to as many concerts I can. I’ve even went to a few on my own ūüėĬ†For a while now I’ve playing a few sets¬†on repeat almost every day. So instead of sharing links, this Friday I decided I’d like to share the music that makes my hairs stand up and reaches the deepest parts of my being.

I’ve seen some of my favorite bands but it’s too bad I won’t be able to see Alice in Chains in their original state. Nirvana’s case is kind of the same. The only difference is that Alice in Chains is hands down¬†my favorite band and Nirvana have never been on top of my list but their Unplugged set definitely is number 3 on this one. My only hope stays with Pearl Jam. Until then, I can always experience these:

29 and on fire

I had my birthday on Saturday and I’m officially in my last year beginning with 2. I’m guessing next year I will freak out a bit, but for now I’m feeling great. I got to spent my birthday with most of my loved ones and I had an awesome time. The best thing was my cousin was here and I haven’t spent my birthday with him in quite a while. I got to dance and laugh and eat great food, ok and drink a lot, and that’s how it’s supposed to be. No matter that I’m getting older. The thing is that I had so much fin that I have no photos from the last 3 days. But as¬†I’m still celebrating today at the office I thought it’s time to also share my new fiery hair. Hope you like it!

Friday finds

These are my first Friday web finds for the new 2016 and I’d like to start with this amazing thing Martin sent me yesterday.

He described it like “Airbnb for dogs” and he was quite right. It’s a pet sitters platform for Ireland where you can find pet sitters in your neighborhood, review their profiles and availability, you can contact them, reserve and pay online. It looks super useful and I’d give anything to have something like that in Bulgaria, considering how often I travel.

You can see the site here: www.pawshake.ie

The other thing I found are the release dates for all the upcoming Star Wars movies. Maybe I should stop with the Star Wars related posts but the hype from me viewing The Force Awakens hasn’t died out yet, so I guess you’d have to bare with me ūüôā

Check them out here: http://moviepilot.com/posts/3713121?utm_source=fb-stream-post&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=these-5-upcoming-star-wars-movies-make-a-galaxy-far-far-away-seem-pretty-damn-close

My¬†last find is this great fitness site by Strahil Ivanov, where you can read all about dieting, exercises, sport and health. I love that he explains the medical reasons behind his statements and he provides all kinds of tips why you should or shouldn’t do something.

You can see it here: http://fitbg.net/

Holiday “hype”

The holidays are gone, all presents are given, the hype has died out and people, including me, are back to their usual everyday lives. I didn’t update you on my holidays as, well, I just wanted to experience them. The best thing was that Martin was back and¬†we got spent a little time together. I partied¬†a little as you can see from the second photo. We had a blast at our company Christmas party. You can never go wrong with a Great Gatsby team, after all.

Beside that and a few more not so glamorous outings, I spent the holidays on different couches with Martin and Churchill – at home, at my parents and grandparents, at his folks, at a friend’s countryside villa. I just loved the total oblivion of it.

I won’t bother you with New year’s resolutions, as I think the hype should last more that in the short 1 week between Christmas and NYE. And I believe that I don’t need to change with the start of every new year. Change has taken such a big part of my life that I don’t tend to plan it. Life just doesn’t go as you’ve planned it, so I may just as well enjoy the unknown. What about you?

Star wars the force awakens review

Last Friday I finally got to see what I was waiting for since the first time I heard it was in production. I know the craze has been overwhelming. I was even discussing it it my cousin, who is also a big fan. But as he’s 5 years older he was wondering why the hype was that much. We trying to remember if it was was the same when the last 3 movies were released. And here comes the power of social media. However, hype or not (as you can see from the pic in my case it’s HYPE), the movie was absolutely all I was hoping for.

The story is captivating though not new and as a stand alone movie, it is far from disappointing.

The new characters are interesting, different and at the same time familiar. I love that we get to meet one of the Stormtroopers and that he’s fun and neurotic. Rey, a scavenger from a desert planet who doesn’t know her parents (ahem, Luke anyone) ¬†is a great strong female center character. Kylo¬†Ren as the bad guy is a nice mixture between a troubled young man and a powerful Sith¬†with¬†anger issues.¬†I also loved that we got to see him without his mask.¬†Poe is the dashing Xwing Pilot from the resistance and the owner of the cute¬†BB8 robot. There are more new secondary¬†characters and¬†Han, Leia, Luke, Chewie, C3P0 and R2D2¬†all return for the enjoyment of old and new fans.

I won’t share any spoilers, but I’d say the story is similar to A¬†New Hope. It’s not a bad¬†thing as for older fans its an awesome nostalgia experience¬†and for newer fans its a great introduction to the Star Wars universe.

I left¬†the cinema wanting to know more why things have turned bad again¬†and I¬†look forward to a second viewing, hopefully when Martin gets home on Thursday ūüôā

May the Force be with you !

Art vs Hate. Bulgarian graffiti from A to Z: part 4

I just got back from a short holiday in the UK, but more on that in my next post. I was planning on posting the last part of the Alphabetic graffiti exhibition from there. And then tragedy hit all those parts of the world, so I thought it wasn’t the time to talk art. It wasn’t the time to share trivial pictures.

The initial shock has worn off a little and I thought it’s time to write. But I won’t write about politics, about sadness and loss. All of us have read more than enough on that in the past few days. And I myself will continue reading because information is vital in these trying times.

However, I’ve changed my mind on the post. Maybe it’s exactly the time to write about art. Because art is a form of love, the love of beauty, ideas, understanding, tolerance, appreciation and acceptance. And these are the things that will stand up to the black minds all over the world.

So here is the final part of the beautiful graffiti exhibition, which you can still visit till 22.11 in Mall of Sofia:

The path of loss

image

A few weeks ago I was ready with my next post and then I got a phone call from my Mom saying one of her best friends has passed away. Since then I couldn’t bring myself to write. I wasn’t sure if I should write about that here. It’s a depressing and very personal topic but I feel the need to share at least some of my thoughts.
Each of us has lost, or will lose, something dear. Not only that, but the grief that follows doesn’t come with a manual. People manage in their own individual way. However, I think there is one thing we all have in common: asking the question “Why?”. I think about my mother’s friend everyday. I think about her family and how grief can’t be measured, because I can’t begin to phatom what they are feeling. What it would be like to lose your role model, your best friend, your other half. And yet, I found that I also think about her courage, her amazingly strong character, her smoking on a terrace overlooking the Aegean sea, her fondness for jewels and her unconditional love for animals. And I find myself smiling. That’s when I realized how grief takes it course. You mourn. You adapt. You remember.

I’m back

Hey there!

It’s been a long while..again..

I have to say that almost every day of this long pause I wanted to write something and I have many excuses that I did’t. But the truth is that no matter that I was super busy with work and other stuff, some of them not that pleasant, I just wasn’t sure if I should continue writing. I just stopped feeling confident in my posts and my blog. I know I’ve found many great people because of it but something snapped in me. And now, after weeks of Martin’s constant reminders of Manon’s Maze and after reading a great post by Antoinette about writer’s block at a blog I enjoy reading, which you can find here, I decided that it’s time. I decided I should stop over-thinking and just write when I feel like it. Because it makes me feel good. So, guys, I’m back and there are lots of things I’d love to share. I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Tuesday roasted pork steaks with vegetables

I’ve been super busy with work this last week and finaly I have time to post my latest cooking atempt. It’s my first try with pork steaks and they were divine. Not that I’m bragging ūüôā

They took more time than I’m used to when I’m cooking, but they were totaly worth it.¬†

Fisrt I seasoned the staeks with soy sauce, honey, mustard, freshly cracked pepper, salt, barbeque sauce and garlic and left them in the fridge for 2,5 hours to marinate. After that I peeled the potatoes and carrots and cut them in big pieces. I sliced the mushrooms, the onion and the garlic. Then I spred some oil on a large pan and put the vegetables and the steaks in it. I poured in water and beer, covered it with tin foil and put it in a preheated to 180C oven.

Image

I checked it every 20 minutes and turned the meat to make sure it will be evenly roasted. After 1h 40min the meat and the vegetables were cooked very well so I removed the foil to get a good browning of the meat and left it for 20 more minutes.

Image

And that was it Р2 hours and 4 delicious steaks. Bon apetit!
