The Merc with the Mouth: Deadpool review

I’ve been waiting for this one for quite some time and the best thing is Martin came home on Saturday and we watched it the day after. We don’t celebrate Valentine’s day, so it was the perfect date night ūüôā

I was expecting a¬†game changer, a movie that would¬†add flavor to the superhero genre and it delivered big time.¬†Lots¬†of fourth-wall breaks, awesome soundtrack, gruesome fight scenes, I don’t know how many mentions of the F-word and truly hilarious moments, there’s tons of cool things in the movie.

Basically,¬†it’s a superhero origin story¬†where we¬†follow¬†Wade Wilson, the irreverent mercenary who becomes the¬†still irreverent super-powered anti-hero. His goal is¬†to find¬†the man who tortured him and transformed him into Deadpool¬†(Francis, aka Ajax). But he¬†doesn’t want to kill him… right away,¬†as he wants¬†Ajax to cure the mutant side effects.

We get plenty of opportunities to laugh at practically anything Wade’s smartass mouth comes with. Don’t expect some¬†big twist: guy fights bad guy, guy gets the girl… but not before killing so many people he can spell out the bad guy’s name with their corpses. One word –¬†awesome.

I also loved all the complimentary things that came with the movie – trailers, teasers, posters, etc. Just check out some of my favorites:

Real life movie characters 2

Animal lover and a film fanatic can only result in lots of photos in the Zoo and a second post about those famous “stars” ‘ doppelgangers.

Bulgaria: an emerging film location

As I was going to work yesterday, I saw big trucks and cameras in front of the zoo and as a big movie fan I wanted to know what’s going on. I asked around and still don’t know which is the movie they’re shooting but at least I got a nice idea for my next post. It appears that Bulgaria has become an intriguing destination for the filming industry with its low cost workers and diverse scenery. With its rich history it also offers a range of historical¬†Thracian, Greek, Roman and Byzantine buildings and artifacts. The urban architecture is similar to many European cities like Vienna and Leningrad. In fact,¬† Sofia has even duplicated¬† Los Angeles in the 1930‚Ä≤s in The Black Dahlia. Other popular movie that were filmed in Bulgaria are:

The Expendables 2, Assassin’s Bullet,¬†Conan the Barbarian, The Way Back, The Fourth Kind,¬†¬†Thick as Thieves, War, Inc., Hero Wanted, Hitman, Youth Without Youth, The Contract, HBO’s Rome and the not yet released¬†Killing Season and¬†300: Rise of an Empire.

There are many big movie stars that have visited the country:

Robert De Niro, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Terry Crews, Donald Sutherland, Jason Momoa, Colin Farrell, Mark Strong, Ed Harris,Val Kilmer,Morgan Freeman, Antonio Banderas,Ray Liotta and many more.
