Friday finds

These are my first Friday web finds for the new 2016 and I’d like to start with this amazing thing Martin sent me yesterday.

He described it like “Airbnb for dogs” and he was quite right. It’s a pet sitters platform for Ireland where you can find pet sitters in your neighborhood, review their profiles and availability, you can contact them, reserve and pay online. It looks super useful and I’d give anything to have something like that in Bulgaria, considering how often I travel.

You can see the site here: www.pawshake.ie

The other thing I found are the release dates for all the upcoming Star Wars movies. Maybe I should stop with the Star Wars related posts but the hype from me viewing The Force Awakens hasn’t died out yet, so I guess you’d have to bare with me ūüôā

Check them out here: http://moviepilot.com/posts/3713121?utm_source=fb-stream-post&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=these-5-upcoming-star-wars-movies-make-a-galaxy-far-far-away-seem-pretty-damn-close

My¬†last find is this great fitness site by Strahil Ivanov, where you can read all about dieting, exercises, sport and health. I love that he explains the medical reasons behind his statements and he provides all kinds of tips why you should or shouldn’t do something.

You can see it here: http://fitbg.net/

Star wars the force awakens review

Last Friday I finally got to see what I was waiting for since the first time I heard it was in production. I know the craze has been overwhelming. I was even discussing it it my cousin, who is also a big fan. But as he’s 5 years older he was wondering why the hype was that much. We trying to remember if it was was the same when the last 3 movies were released. And here comes the power of social media. However, hype or not (as you can see from the pic in my case it’s HYPE), the movie was absolutely all I was hoping for.

The story is captivating though not new and as a stand alone movie, it is far from disappointing.

The new characters are interesting, different and at the same time familiar. I love that we get to meet one of the Stormtroopers and that he’s fun and neurotic. Rey, a scavenger from a desert planet who doesn’t know her parents (ahem, Luke anyone) ¬†is a great strong female center character. Kylo¬†Ren as the bad guy is a nice mixture between a troubled young man and a powerful Sith¬†with¬†anger issues.¬†I also loved that we got to see him without his mask.¬†Poe is the dashing Xwing Pilot from the resistance and the owner of the cute¬†BB8 robot. There are more new secondary¬†characters and¬†Han, Leia, Luke, Chewie, C3P0 and R2D2¬†all return for the enjoyment of old and new fans.

I won’t share any spoilers, but I’d say the story is similar to A¬†New Hope. It’s not a bad¬†thing as for older fans its an awesome nostalgia experience¬†and for newer fans its a great introduction to the Star Wars universe.

I left¬†the cinema wanting to know more why things have turned bad again¬†and I¬†look forward to a second viewing, hopefully when Martin gets home on Thursday ūüôā

May the Force be with you !

Star Wars – the nerd in me awakens

In the wake of the release of Episode¬†VII of the Star Wars saga – The force awakens, it’s perfectly normal to be obsessed with everything Star Wars-y. The last two weeks I’ve been watching the old movies and this trailer was released just in time for the nerd in me to explode with excitement. And the best thing is that I got tickets for me and my folks to see the movie at the premiere on the 18th December!

About the trailer – it looks epic. The new characters¬†that weren’t in the teasers seem awesome and the fact that we see the bad guy in full is great. He looks super cool! And I love that there’s a possibility Luke to have gone all Darth Vader, so can’t wait for December. Oh, and one more thing, I really enjoyed the new vibe in the music, nice touch.

In addition, as it’s Friday and I try to share some interesting thing I’ve found on the Internet during the week, I think it’s only fair to share cool things related to Star Wars:

Bring on the hype: Star Wars Episode VII trailer is here

As you may know from some of my old posts¬†(here and here), I’m a huge Star Wars fan. And here I am, in awe, and nerdgasming with every scene and just overall filled with joy, as short as this trailer may have been.

I wonder what it will be like though. Dragging out the franchise or actually offering something new? The Star Wars Universe is pretty big, so there is potential.

The trailer shows that the new movie still has the symbols of the soul of¬†Star Wars ‚ÄĒ X-Wings and TIE fighters and the Millennium Falcon. It also poses some¬†very interesting questions.

Who is John Boyega’s unnamed character, springing from out of shot at the beginning and why is he wearing stormtrooper armor? Is he an Imperial deserter? Or has he borrowed a set of the iconic white coverings to pass as a member of the military just like Han and Luke in Episode IV?

Then there’s¬†Daisy Ridley’s character that according to rumors¬†is¬†a Skywalker-esque figure called Kira, trapped on a desert planet and yearning for excitement and adventure.

In regard to¬†the gruff¬†voiceover that scores both Boyega and Ridley’s appearances: I think it’s a safe to say it’s¬†a Sith.

All things considered, that’s¬†a Sith¬†wielding a distinctive (and¬†much talked about) lightsaber.¬†For now, his¬†intentions¬†aren’t clear, but if he’s anything like every other Sith in Star Wars history, he’ll either want to kill the movie’s heroes or turn them to the dark side.

The¬†teaser ends¬†with something more recognizable. As the Millennium Falcon¬†tries to escape from TIE fighters you can see that the ship’s¬†round radar dish, knocked off during the escape from the second Death Star, has been replaced by a rectangular model.

For me the trailer shows that JJ Abrams is no stranger to Star Wars. With The Force Awakens, the franchise¬†has something new for a galaxy that was shaped¬†in¬†35 years¬†of filler material ‚ÄĒ it has mystery again.

My fashion icons: Diane Kruger

From¬†finalist in the Elite Models Look of the Year ’92 competition to Hollywood star and¬†red carpet sweetheart,¬†Diane Kruger is my German style icon.¬†She goes for¬†vintage-inspired dresses¬†for her red carpet¬†appearances and for laid back¬†chic for her casual attire. She’s just the perfect fashion combo!

Not a Liebster award post

Image

Yesterday I found out I was nominated for a Liebster award by the satirical, sarcastic and super funny author of¬†The Playground. For the record, I’m not a fan of the “blog award” thing. I was excited when I got my first one, but then I realized it’s more of a spam than a Pulitzer. However, I made a deal with my award-giver and I’m just going to answer the questions. The temptation was great, the questions – hilarious.

1.) Have you seen Alexader Skarsgård in True Blood, and if not, why not?

I have and I’ve drooled a lot because of his abs.

2.) Would you rather fight 100 duck size horses or 1 horse size duck? What’s your first plan of defense?

I’d take the horse size duck. I’d lure it with corn to the nearest lake. Because it’s as big as a horse it will simply drown. And now I’m sad ūüė¶

3.) The olympics are just around the corner…besides the inevitable riots that will take place, what event are you most looking forward to?

Drinking beer and eating fries while watching.

4.) Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?

Sure, every third Friday of the month.

5.) If you could have one food only, for the rest of your life, and it wouldn’t be bad for you or have any ill repercussions whatsoever, what would it be?

Pizza. Always pizza. Forever pizza.

6.) What is your own personal favorite piece that you have posted that didn’t get nearly enough attention the first time around, that you would like to take this opportunity to plug?

I would have to go with “Christopher Reeve: The true Man of steel”. I out a lot of work in this tribute and I think his story is truly inspiring.

7.) If you were a desert island, what book would you be? (Yup, you read that right…just trying to mix up a standard question and get your creative juices flowing).

I would be one of the Phoenix islands and the Harry Potter series will order me (lame pun, I know).

8.) Have you ever played with a Ouija board? Think it worked?

No, I’ve always wanted, though. The closest I’ve got is summoning the Queen of hearts and my head is still intact, so I hope the Ouija is more reliable ūüėÄ

9.) What’s the oddest job you’ve ever had… You know the one that you did because you were young and needed the money?

I did interviews for a marketing company. It doesn’t sound very odd but I had to do very strange researches like “Do people need libraries”, “How much money rich people are willing to spend on cars” and “What time people spend speaking on the phone” and I had to speak with even wierder people.

10.) What Star Wars character are you and why?

R2D2- I’m small, cute and witty.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these great questions ūüôā

Minion craze

As expected from a girl like me, and from most of the people on this planet that have a reasonable sense of humor and cuteness appreciation, I’m a big fan of the yellow minions from the Despicable me series. Today I was lucky enough to find this mash up between other favorites of mine and the awesomeness of the little guys. Enjoy!

Boooo: creative, funny or scary on Halloween

Symbolizing and celebrating the line  between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a holiday of fun and superstition. It has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which included people lighting bonfires and wearing costumes to keep off the roaming ghosts.  Now Halloween is all about gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

Here in Bulgaria young people started celebrating a few years back, so we’re still new at this. I was searching the Internet and I found some amazing costumes and great ideas. If I wasn’t going down with a cold I’d make sure to try to challenge some of these:

Cool quotes from Star Wars’ performers

As you may know, I’m a huge Star Wars fan. What I love about the series is that there’s always something new you can learn about them. Today I’ve gathered some fun and interesting quotes by my favorite actors and actresses (Carrie Fisher, you rock!) that participated in the great franchise. Enjoy!

Alec Guinness

The Times reports I’ve made ¬£4.5 million in the past year. Where do they get such nonsense?

Science fiction Рwhich gives me pause Рbut it is to be directed by George Lucas, who did American Graffiti, which makes me think I should. Big part. Fairytale rubbish, but could be interesting.

It’s a pretty staggering film as spectacle and technically brilliant. Exciting, very noisy and warmhearted. The battle scenes at the end go on for five minutes too long, I feel, and some of the dialogue is excruciating and much of it is lost in noise, but it remains a vivid experience.

Harrison Ford

It’s a little-known fact, but I wanted Han Solo to die at the end of¬†Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi¬†(1983). I thought it would give more weight and resonance. But¬†George Lucas¬†wasn’t sympathetic. He didn’t want me killed by those teddy bear guys.

I think The Force is in you. Force yourself.

He’s not a cardboard character to me at all. He’s as real as anything else. I never thought of the character as having only two dimensions until the critics said so. And they’re wrong. The third dimension is me.

Carrie Fisher

Mark [Hamill] was off on Dagobah while Harrison [Ford] and I were were getting drunk in Cloud City.

I’m now a Disney Princess!

Leia follows me like a vague smell.

Mark Hamill

The idea of The Force is basically “Religion’s Greatest Hits”.

I can’t tell you how much we laughed on the set to have¬†Alec Guinness¬†in a scene with a big, furry dog that’s flying a space ship.

I laughed all through¬†Star Wars¬†— I thought they were comedies. It was absurd having a big giant dog flying your spaceship and this kid from the farm is wacko for this princess he’s never met, that he’s seen in a hologram, the robots are arguing over whose fault it is … You know, they hook up with a magic wizard and they borrow a ship from a pirate … It was goofier than hell! I loved it! I just seemed so fresh, and like¬†Wizard of Oz¬†meets technology, or whatever, and this and that all thrown together.

Ewan McGregor

Actually, I really want to play Princess Leia. Stick some big pastries on my head. Now, that would be interesting.

I’ve been waiting nearly twenty years to have my own lightsaber. Nothing’s cooler than being a Jedi Knight.

Then I watched the first episode of Star Wars over and over again. I loved it as a kid. It was a bit funny to be paid for it. I’d say to my wife, “I’ve got to go and watch Star Wars again, Sorry. I just haven’t quite got it…” Brilliant.

Liam Neeson

I’m not supposed to say anything but, let’s face it, Jedi knights never die.

I always wanted to be a cowboy, and Jedi Knights are basically cowboys in space, right?
