It’s hard for a car fan not to smile at the sight of a classic muscle car. These American sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving are always to burn some rubber. A 2-door, rear wheel drive car, with a large V8 engine, is intended mainly for street use and occasional drag racing. Big, heavy, loud and rude, muscle cars are a symbol of the American auto industry of the 1960s and 1970s.

I have to admit it was love at first sight when I sam this beauty in Gone in 60 seconds. And it egnited my passion for muscle cars. And this one still sends my heart fluttering with its 428-cubic-inch Police Interceptor engine.
1970 Buick GSX
This 1970 stunning Buick was officially quoted as having 360 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. It was available only in yellow or white, both with the obligatory racing stripes, of course and only 678 were produced.
1967 Chevrolet Impala SS
The Chevrolet Impala is often credited with starting the muscle car era. It quickly became the symbol for performance in the early sixties and introduced Chevrolet’s signature “SS” brand of performance. A black 1967 Sport Sedan 4-door hardtop is used in the TV series Supernatural, and as such, this model has seen a substantial increase in value to collectors.
1967 Pontiac GTO
The Pontiac GTO, affectionately dubbed the “Goat,” is about as quintessentially muscle car as it gets.
1968 Pontiac Firebird Coupe
The first generation was one of the best all-around muscle cars on the market. This 1968 model offered a range of engines, including a roaring 400-cubic-inch V8 good for 335 horsepower.
1970 Chevelle 454 SS
454 cubic inches — roughly 7.4 liters — is a whole lot of engine, and it made for outrageous power in the 1970 Chevelle 454 SS. This car, and the engine it held, basically represented the limit of the muscle-car power wars, and it is still the highest-output production car to date.
1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda
Fully redesigned for 1970, the Plymouth Barracuda was offered with no less than five high-powered V8 engines, although the wonderous 426 Hemi was the top, producing 425 horsepower.
1969 Z28 Chevy Camaro
The ’69 Camaro had a small-block 302-cubic-inch engine. It isn’t the biggest, fastest monster on the street, but overall, it’s a great package and left little to be desired. And moreover, it’s Tramsformers’ Bumblebee’s Grandpa 🙂
