Paris week: graffiti part 2

Today is the second part of the amazing Beauvais and Paris street art I wanted to share with you. You can see the difference between the storage house in Beauvais and the little streets in Paris. We were there with some artists and they took the camera that Space Invader had put in the wall so I was able to take a photo. I also loved the stencils that seemed very popular in Paris. Batgirl and the Skeleton playing with a brain were particularly cool. Hope you like them.

Paris week: graffiti part 1

I’ve been missing out on my maze a lot but I’m finally finished with my other works and projects. So I took a much needed break and I’m back for good with great stuff to share. First of all, this year is going to be my best travel – wise. I was in Romania in March, two times in Greece already, and me and Martin visited Paris, Vienna and Prague in the last two months. And I’m planning some more trips, but we’ll see.

So, what better way to start than to share the best trip we had so far – the one to Paris. I’ve been there a couple of times since I have some relatives in France (and, no, that’s not why my name is Manon, it comes from the opera) and I really liked the city. But this time I saw with new eyes, both the eyes of a grown up who knows all about history and the eyes of kid when we went to Disneyland. I have lots of stuff to tell you about this exciting city but first, I will start with the photos of a friend of mine. Yes. this will be our first “guest star” here on Manon’s maze. He took the pics for me as he knows how much I love street art and these pieces found in Beauvais, where I landed in order to get to Paris, are simply amazing. Enjoy!

The meaning of talent: Sofles

My granddad is an architect and my dad’s job has always been involved with something creative: design, construction works, executing exhibition stands, advertising, almost everything. I think it’s natural that I’ve always been into art. I even considered embracing art as my career choice but life got me elsewhere. However, I still love to draw from time to time and it brings me amazing sense of satisfaction. I also like to find new, or at least new for me, art forms. And my favorite is street art. I’m fascinated by the way people can transform dull walls, buses, trains and even trash into gripping and wonderful pieces. So, when Martin introduced me to the art of this artist form Brisbane I was totally mesmerized. His gift is simply spectacular and with every video of his that comes up I’m becoming an even bigger fan. So, ladies an gentlemen, with just a few of his masterpieces, I present to you the phenomenal Sofles:

Hauntingly beautiful deserted places Part 2

Nara Dreamland Theme park, Japan

This ethereal place was a theme park near Nara, Japan built in 1961 and inspired by Disneyland in California as you can see from the castle. The park was closed permanently in 2006.

Underwater City in Shicheng, China

Lion-City

Lost Underwater Lion City, China

The amazing underwater Shicheng, or Lion City is 1341 years old. It was submerged in 1959 because of the construction of the Xin’an River Hydropower Station. The water protects the city from wind and rain erosion, so it has remained enclosed beneath the water in a quite good condition.

La Petite Ceinture Railway, France

Before the Paris Métro, there was the ‘Chemin de fer de Petite Ceinture’ or “little belt railway” which was shut down completely in 1985. The time-worn walls through which the trains were running kept the Petite Ceinture secluded and allowed nature to reclaim the space.

In the metro system underneath Kiev, Ukraine there are many tunnels that are partially flooded, and stalactites hang from the ceilings.
Dome houses, USA

Protruding from the water, a hundred feet off an isolated strip of beach, these white domes rise from the Gulf of Mexico a few miles south of Marco Island, Florida. A holiday home built in 1980 by a retired independent oil producer, Bob Lee, the houses were futuristic, self-sustaining and solar-powered. Sadly they were abandoned after hurricanes Wilma and Andrew.
